About the Observer

Hello! I’m Courtney: an avid people-watcher, a journalist and a writer. The last one is the most important.

I’ve always written; on napkins and post-its and notebooks. A Kickstarter campaign helped me self-publish my first novel (Once, We Were Stolen). It was a late night and weekend affair, working as a business reporter by day and going home to type, scribble and tear my hair out.

Now, as the excitement and exhaustion of that project fades away, I find myself clenching my fists with the desire to write.

So this is my compromise: A daily narrative about a stranger. Someone I’ve seen on the street, in the grocery store, at a bar. Someone with a story that I couldn’t possibly know, but will take a guess at anyhow. A mixture of fact and absolute fiction.

A way to keep my notebook full of purpose and prose. An exercise in humanity. Because, after all,

“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view … until you climb in his skin and walk around in it.” – Atticus Finch, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

I can’t wait to share with you. Thank you for reading!
